The Espresso Book Machine

Just for fun, and because it doesn't involve any real effort on my part, I'm going to put up this short video on the Espresso Book Machine that's recently come to berth in the bookstore that I work in. There are only a few in the U.S. so far, and not that many in the world yet, so people are very intrigued and excited about it, which, in the era of Ebooks, I find rather hopeful.

In addition to Sylvie, who is named with the video and has come there expressly (espressly?) to operate the machine and be the community liaison, a few of my coworkers and even my boss wander through the back of the scene, but I won't out them here...thankfully, I myself am not in the frame.

  2. Good to know that there is one of Leaves of Grass being printed. I didn't really explore all the video options as I put this up, and undoubtedly there will be more. PBS came by to film on the first day. I kind of want to pick up a copy of the Leaves of Grass edition.

And if this machine could also make coffee, Kathleen, it would undoubtedly take over the world.

  3. Cool. I like the whole look of it. It's great that you can watch the internal process.

  4. Julie, I wish I had used the video Kathleen refers to, because it shows the awe that people seem to feel about the thing. I watched it, but now I can't find it again. I have to admit that I see it as just a glorified copy machine, but I do like the options it provides.

  5. Hi Seana, I'm sure you know already, but there was an article in the San Jose Mercury News about it. Very cool to see your store in the news! Janet

  6. Hi Janet--no, I didn't know about the Mercury, but I'm not surprised--it's getting a lot of media attention. As long as they don't ask me for an interview, or worse, to demonstrate it, I'm cool with the whole thing.
